How does hyphens, plural-s and which tld affect the size of traffic?

Focusing at google in mind, which is the most used search engine.

Let me give some examples. (Even though I now saw that the prime url here is already registrered, but just as to show an example).

So, what do you think, how would each one of the types below, affect the google ranking position? Also being considered, in conjunction with how people can remember urls.

People look for;
old furnitures
or
"old furnitures"

And they might search for
old furniture (<--without plural -s) shops

And we want to have a forum. Since the shortest urls are often taken, and with .com, we must try to figure out what else to take.
