Hello,

I'm looking to selling a site for $x,xxx by christmas, so I can go overseas with my family, what characteristics of a developed website make it worth $x,xxx? traffic wise? revenue wise?

I'm not sure how I can develop a site worth $x,xxx in such a short timeframe but I'd like to know your views.. :)

Thanks!

It's very possible Gayble. :) Place the content on that site! Remember that content pays, and if you look in Search Engines it will prove that. I know someone who created a site in a day, added massive content and sold it for $500.00 the next day. The site had enough content so that the new owner didn't have to develop it as much, and therefore many Search Engines picked up on most of the information already.

A unique design, and some advertising also helps too.

This can all be done before the Holidays. :)

What was his site based on?

Just try to make a site that is making money from ads, so... it gets hits. A sites popularity plays a big roll in how much someone will pay for it.

Only worth what somebody will actually pay for it. If that helps.

Well if you go by monthly revenue and you multiply it by how many months that add up to what you want for it, than it can be a very large amount.

Sometimes revenue price's go up thousands, multiplied by a lot more than that would equal a lot of money. :)

well, also there is always that one little factor everybody seems to like to leave until last. Actual topic and focus! Look at the above posts. You are evaluating evrything that is irrelevant to seasonal time of year, interest, nationality, demo appeal. You can't argue your way to a bigger selling price.

Yeah I would mostly just try to get money from ads. As JJ said content, research the subject and competitors in great detail. Then just post so much content that it fills the site up. Then sell it. You could get a bit of money from ads and then if the site is generating any revenue you can sell it for more.

I guess PiXool.com is probably my best bet for this, any other comments and suggestions to add onto this would be appreciated :)

Well PiXool.com is a parent directory so it would obviously need to be developed. I would start by putting a temporary layout up there with some content, than upgrading over the times to come. You want to get started as soon as possible as it's a lengthy process before any serious results are noticed.

I'd say a very very catchy name and lots of traffic and potential customers already visiting your site...

or maybe a new product or improvement on an existing product that everybody can get only from your page.

Maybe he is updating it, and hasn't put an Under Construction sign on it. He just hasn't uploaded the necessary files yet to host the site under.

I tried moving it to a new server but somehow the MySQL database became corrupt and I had to set up the whole site all over again :( but people are starting to upload so that's good, I guess :)

That's kind of like when I deleted a forum's MySQL database... there was no prompt, it just deleted :(

That happened to me only I forgot to backup my Forum's database. Reason was I was having Internet Problems the day I wanted to back it up. But! Luckily the hosting service provided me with the backup. A Small Orange was my host. This is why they are great. Some hosting services don't do this for you. :)

Everythings back to normal, I've bought a banner ad on a free cPanel hosting site getting a few thousand uniques a day and traffic is starting to come back :) Just need to work on the forum, but at the moment, with all the windows I have open, I can't be bothered :p

1. Existing Revenue
2. Potential of Revenue

How much revenue does it have to earn each day to be worth $1,000? Do I times monthly revenue by 10 or by 12?

Depends on how many months you want to give the buyer. 10 or 12 months would be around 80.00 a month estimated since 100 a month would be 1200 in 12 months.

I think it pretty much comes back to whatever the site has the possiblity to make

Yeah times however many months the seller decides to use. You would need to hold on to the site for a couple of months before doing that though.

But then when you sell sites for $xxx, xxx you have to provide so many documents, it'd be a pain to sell, you'd probably be better off keeping the site and earning even more..

Actually you really don't. You probably need tax papers, but that should be it. What else would you need?

maybe have a portfolio of image development tools and make it a hobby portal.

Gayble

Yes, you also need to sign an agreement between the buyer and seller to avoid problems :) I think you'd also have to get an NDA or MDA, or whatever it's called.. maybe sjag will fill us in

I've only sold domains for close to X,XXX. Never really anything above that. Didn't have any problems selling the ones I have had though. Taxes had to be paid but that's it.

I sold my Casino site for around $1,000.00. RealDN sold for $500.00. Not bad. I could have held on to them for much longer and gotten more for it. I just needed the money then.

I'm a bad seller, any good price that hits me usually takes it, I'm not good at holding on to things.. :D
