How many domains do you currently own?
I currently own around 13-15 domains, I'm developing 2 of them right now and I've designed a website for one of the domains but I keep getting an error when I try to point it to a nameserver. :( How about you guys?

13, only minor development on 2, expecting to build one up significantly in near future. I'm interested in this thread because I was contacted out of the blue on a domain I did own and was offerred 200 times what I had invested ... there must be something to this business ;-)

Only 2 right now, I'm looking for more though :)
I was very big in the domain business a year ago. I held my own website where I sold other peoples domains or brokered non the less. I made some money off of that but then needed to sell the site because money was tight. I look to be getting back involved highly with it soon.
Right now I am just holding on to around 5 or 6 of them. I can broker domains too but haven't really looked for any clients.

wow you guys own a hell of a lot of domains. I only own 3 domains. I only tend to focus on one domain name so as not to give up on it and abandon it for another venture.
If I get into the domain business. I want to own supreme domain names that I think have an ultimate chance of becoming very popular. I don't want to register long domain names that need extensive marketing, etc. Short one worded domains are what I am looking for. :)

You have a better chance, at least with drop lists, to get a two word phrase instead of a one word domain. One words are obscure words that no one ever uses or have ing, ly, or some other stupid suffix that doesn't help the value. You end up with words like oscilloscopic.com instead of something like PlaneCrash.com. I usually go for domains that have exactly two words. Three words aren't bad, but then you run into domains like APlaneCrash.com or ThePlaneCrash.com.

Are droplists the best way to go when adding to your domain list? I know registering is a bad idea now since everything is pretty much taken.

It's unlikely that you will find gold in a domain that hasn't already been registered. You might get lucky and find a typo domain no one thought about registering, but even the best of those have long since been registered. Droplists give you two advantages, 1) the sites have already been around. They might have been indexed by Google, still have sites linking to them, or still have people visiting the domain. 2) people are actually stupid enough to forget to renew a domain. You can pick up dropped domains and get an email a couple days later from the original owner wanting it back. You can make a quick $1,000 by doing that, especially if the owner has flyers, shirts, and other promotional items already printed. Either they have to pay you, or pay to get all the advertising re-done (which is usually more).

Very interesting. What is the best service to get these "dropped" domains?

That'd be mean, to take their domain then charge them 1k for it back haha. Guess they should remember to renew their domains though :D

It's usually domains from Real Estate or Travel Agency companies...they make a lot of money, but aren't too computer savy.

I own three and my husband and I own one. Liz
I would like a great domain to drop. Even if I get it they will have to pay me off for it lol. That would make me feel a little uncomfortable but fortunate in a way. Some people just have lucky days. Although I would never want that to happen to me.

i own abt 25 names.

I just started "Domaining" and I picked up about 35 to go with my already 3. I spend over $500 this weekend in domain names and domain services. God I'm sick. I can't stop.

Personal use as in a blog or something? If you're using them, they'd at least have to be developed, otherwise parked.

He might just be holding onto them for a rainy day :D
People look at the whois of domains they are interested of. I owned a few before and got emails asking if I was selling. I didn't even post anything anywhere that I was selling it. Whois is a good advertising way, believe me.

I tried that once, contacted them, and received a ridiculously large price :(
Apsylum
11-08-2005, 07:00 PM
What kind of price?
Some people just lie and email you a fake price. It's BS. I got an offer for $250,000 for tsusami.com. Lol. Typo of tsunami.com and the guy never contacted me back. Now that's a little extreme don't ya think?

tsusami.com isn't too far off either.

Get's about 1,360 results in Google for Tsusami. It's a typo but also a name for something I think.
It could rack in a few bucks maybe.

Yeah, we were talking about Myst though.
Oh alright. I think I might sell tsusami.com seperately. I think I could get a pretty penny for it. I really don't want to benefit off of it though because of what happened so I might have to donate the money to charity. Although it's not really the main talk right now.

Maybe try listing it for sale here at DF? You may get a buyer or two, you never know unless you never list it :p
