View Full Version : Cheapest domains?

Where can you register the cheapest domains? The cheapest I've found so far is DomainSite.com and I've been using it for quite some time and I really like their control panel, service and fast registrations. Their .com prices are $6.99 and they've increased the prices for .info from $0.99 to $1.99 :( oh well..
Does anyone know any cheaper registrars that are as good as DomainSite, GoDaddy or any other popular registrar? preferrably a registrar that accepts PayPal ;)

i only buy dotcom. aplusnet had some 3.99 specials for a while.

There are some sites that do .com regs for $3.99 (I think it's www.domainsarefree.com) but then they only accept credit cards :(

myvaluehost.com (i think) offer domain names for only $4 per year. Netfirms gives them for $4.95 per year.

$4.00, I have $40.00 at the moment so that would mean I would be able to buy 10 domains! that's quite a big saving compared to the small amount of domains I would be able to buy at DomainSite for that same amount of money.. Do these guys accept PayPal? Are domain pushes free?
Namecheap offers really low prices and great deals. I have used them in the past and have had absolutely no problems with them.

Isn't MyValueHost only $4 for the first year?
Not sure. Aren't these ones really low because they are of good enough quality? I have tried some that are VERY cheap and the quality of service severely went down. Just a little information on the ones that are VERY low.

Ya, but domainsarefree.com is a company of Globat.com. Globat is huge, so you won't worry about support, or reliability
Gayble
10-14-2005, 12:20 AM
Globat may be huge, but they are also huge on downtimes ;) and oversell like crazy. Their hosting service is poor, what else can you expect from their domain registration service, I think you'll have a good idea of that :D They probably oversell their domains too ;) - jokes :)

Well I am saying this because I believe in the you get what you pay for. I have used some pretty cheap registrars just to try them out and the way they've handled transactions and just everything in general were terrible. Just a fair warning I guess. :)

Which cheap registrar did you try and what kind of troubles did you face when you were registering a domain? Were these problems finally resolved?
sjaguar13
10-14-2005, 02:13 AM
I had problems with Register Fly. I registered some domains, but they never showed up in my account. They took my money, though. I finally got all but one...I'm still trying to figure out what happened to it.
Gayble
10-14-2005, 02:17 AM
This happened to me a few times at DomainSite, basically, when I was sending the payment through PayPal and it was redirecting back to DomainSite it timed out and the domain wasn't in my account, but then I checked the credits in my account and it said I had $6.99 in my account, I guess that's what happens when your registrations are unsuccessful, they get deposited into your account as credits to be used at any time, so I tried registering again with the credits and that time, it worked! :)
Maybe you have a similar problem at RegisterFly?
sjaguar13
10-14-2005, 02:24 AM
I had to deposit the money into my account first, then try to register the domains. If anything timed out, it had to be Register Fly, and in that case, they still suck.
Gayble

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to avoid RegisterFly for any future registrations!

All these problems with cheap domain registrars! Wow. This is truly amazing. Why not spend $8.00 or $10.00 on a decent registrar like GoDaddy or Enom or something. Instead of trying cheap ones. I mean why even bother if it is a couple of dollars?

A few dollars is a lot for that guy who buys and sells domains as a living :) 600 domains at 3.99 each would be better than buying them from register.com at 39.99 each (i think)

Yeah, but it adds up. And if you can save 50 bucks, there's more domains you can buy
Yeah but what is the guarantee you're actually getting what you pay for? Why would someone sell domains at $2.99 or $3.99 when the services that are selling them for $9.99 or $10.99 are selling more? Wouldn't everyone just go for the cheaper ones? There has to be a catch because every other higher ranked Registrar would lose business that way. Sorry I just feel that this can be argued. :)

I just find it too good to be true that's all. I have actually used a registrar that was only about $4.00. I couldn't transfer the domain for like 500 days. That was the catch I think. Note the 500 days is sort of being sarcastic but I know it was a long time.

jj people want the business and word of mouth, for people who reg a new domain name or names every day this is big savings, and that's their market. the people already in play can't be bothered. its clear godaddy is trying to bundle aggregate products on undesiring buyers, a good time to spend a few dolalrs per client with an easier reg and cheaper too guess which site we'll go back to?

I would rather use a better service for any reason. I wouldn't want to waste my time again with a no name registrar that is cheap. If there were known cheap registrars wouldn't they put all the other ones out of business?

plus what is something happens and you only find out when it is too late. i think i asked on here if they tell you if you are dropping and someobody else is bidding, etc. Imagine a year later getting an email. I get pertinent emails bulked all the time. But keep an open mind to be sure.
When I register a domain name I usually want to develop it. If I then want to sell it and find out the name can't be transferred for another year or something I get really annoyed because not even an ICANN law is that long. It must be the service because it's so cheap.

Yep, it could also lure away potential buyers when you try to sell your site, they will be weary of the registrar and exactly how safe the domain is with that particular "cheap" registrar. Another incident would be developing a domain to a point where you could consider it to be "popular" and has an accident with your domain, and somehow you lose it, that's what you get with "cheap" registrars :D cheap domains, bad quality.

Bulk registration?
I don't understand how some registrars are more money yet they still offer the same services? There has to be a catch involved. I always wondered why I see some for $4.00 and some for $9.00. It's odd.

Some buy more in bulk or only take one type of payment
You're missing my point. Single domains are cheaper at some registrars. Whether is be 4 or 9.00 it is still a big difference. When you buy bulk it would be even near 9.00, it would be far more expensive but cheaper if you added up 9.00 times however many bulk domains you've bought.

Err, I meant the registar. Don't you have to buy a license?
License for what? Too register bulk domains? Or register any domains? As far as I know registering a domain requires you too input your address, etc, that's all.
Maybe when you host a domain you need a license, but even with that I'm not sure. Too tell you the truth I don't know what you're talking about. Care to explain?

I mean the registar, not the person registering the domain. How do they start selling? I thought they had to buy a license and some costed more than others but allowed them to get the domains cheaper. Or maybe it's just for resellers
Oh well they have to pay a certain percentage to whoever they receive there service from. Where do registrars get the right to sell people domains, etc?

No I know you need some sort of license in order to sell them, but I didn't know where they got the permission too. I'm sure it is ICANN, but if you think of it GoDaddy, etc are all resellers of domains.

The currency exchange on Namepros uses a reseller to exchange Namepro Dollars for Domains. I'm sure that is what Apsylum is trying to say. Instead of using the Forum currency you would use a site to sell the domains correct?

Anybody that bought domains for $3.99 go hit yourself because renewal is $8,99 per year.
See here:
http://www.domainsarefree.com/x/faq/billing-renewal-fee-domain-names.html
If you find a domain name cheaper than $6,95 there is always yes always a catch.
You have to buy hosting too.
You don't have full dns control.
you have to display ads or popup on your website.
And so on.
I really would love to see someone offer it cheaper than $6,95 but I have never seen that before.
Remember this if it's too good to be true it's not true.

Saw a lot guys claiming bought cheap domain name somewhere. Here are some example:
GoDaddy.com - Buy $1.99? You need to buy some of their services first then you got this offer. Normal rate is $6.95~$8.95 plus $0.25 ICANN fees. Worse later, renewal is $8.95 per year plus $0.25 ICANN fees.
Netfirms.com - Buy $4.95? First year only, next year onwards you have to pay $9.95 per year.
Yahoo.com - Buy $1.99~$2.99? First year only, next year onwards you have to pay $9.95 per year.
So far as i know really cheap per year is $6.95 for 1st year and $7.45 renewal on every year, found on tuneworkz.com, but i don't just buy the domain, my intention is their super good deals, a hosting package with domain name + truly no ads hosting account + Cpanel + fantastico for only $14.95 per year. Oh my god, i shouldn't waste my money on godaddy.com before that paying $8.95 per year + no ads hosting account that cost me $3.95 per month. if i know tuneworkz.com earlier, i can save the money for other use.
guys, be checked on each reseller domain renewal price for each year when they said they're cheap. Maybe you can go to http://www.tuneworkz.com/web_domain.shtml for a look

Dear Friends, I am new to this forum - however not in this domain business. Here are some of the things we need to consider while looking for cheap domains (Please learn lesson from how RegisterFly.com is out of business now - which was one of the most popular cheap domain registrar a while ago)
1. Will the vendor allow you full DNS control so that you can host your domain elsewhere of your choice.
2. Do need to pay extra fees for private registration and at what price. This is important to keep you site privacy in order to avoid spams atc.
3. Do you need to pay more for the domain renewals. Many people are trapped with this because they land up paying more for the renewals.
4. What if you buy hosting plan with them, will they give the domain for free or at cheaper price.
5. What extra stuffs do they provide with your domains. It is again important to keep your domain online while we are customizing/building the site.
6. Finally will they allow you a easy transfer to another vendor in future?
7. Remember again cheap hosting plans are just to attract the cheap customers. You will see the upfront price hike when you want to upgrade your your hosting plan because of space problem in your site. Beware of this. We do not like to make a domain just having few pages and forget it. We want to upload pictures, videos and more ...
If you want to manage many many domains for yourself, I suggest you to become a domain + hosting reseller yourself and buy domains at the much cheaper price from your shop itself. (For example $0.5 for .info and $6.30 for .COM + 0.22 cent ICANN fee)
Best wishes,
Vera.Chandler
