View Full Version : .NET is on the rise!
I don't know about anyone else, but I feel the .net extension is on the rise. I have had the urge to just register as many .net extension domains, or even purchase rare ones for a larger amount of money. I just like the sound of a name with the .net at the end. Not sure why, just a incling. ;) Any other viewpoints on this?

yeah I like them to, I find it nicer sounding lol. like www.MySite.com. Sounds ok but www.MySite.net sounds better since most ppl call the internet the net

I agree too. I was laughing at the owner who registered inter.net. I think that is funny. He or She is probably making big with it anyway since the name is practically internet. I crack myself up sometimes! :D

I don't personally care for them. I think that most people are used to domains that end in .com and to get anything else is just asking for visitors to end up at the wrong site. Plus, saying MyDomain.net reminds me of of Microsoft's Visual Studio .Net (which I thought this post was about). The only other TLD I see that might be worth something are country codes of bigger countries (.de, .eu, and so on, but not .bz or .cc).

Is .EU the newest extention? If it is, get ready to start registering the one word domains. I'm going for hosting.eu or domains.eu

I think dot net is on the rise because so many people are sitting on undeveloped domains at the com level. if you know it's going to lay nascent because the owner has greedy dollar signs flashing in his eyes, develop the net and make that guy look dumb for not kicking it into the market place.
.net is mainly used for a network type website. Usually it sounds more technology bound than a .com. You'd be surprised at how many .net's are making it and how many .com's aren't. I know a bunch of .net's making it better than .com's.

I think .net is on a rise as well. More people for someone reason are starting "network" type sites or companies. I perfer .net. I would have gotten a .net when I got my domain, but it was already taken. =/
Yeah usually when I register domains the .net was available. That's not the case right now. Many .net's are being registered as we type right now!

The guy who has the dot com will begin raking in the jack becuase it's hard for people to remember the .net part of a domain. They will confuse it with .com and that guy will put up links and begin making a fortune....that's why I don't like .net unless I can also get the .com.

for development yes. but for resale you are hard pressed to find big dollars more than reg fees because so many people are looking to leverage value for the name alone in future.

You'd be surprised. .net's are pretty popular and people do type them in a lot. Maybe not as much as .com but they still do get enough. Many network sites of course.

That's pretty much what always happens to me when I try to register a .com, most of the time the .net is available and the .com isn't even developed or just parked, sitting there doing nothing..

The owner of the .com wants you to make him an offer.

that's because a lot of people want to make money off copycats who will buy the com to hijack the business from the top tld position. has any of the big time news press done articles on domain name reselling? i don't mean wired or online news. Time, Rollingstone, any big avenues?

Thats why whenever I buy a .com and I know its going to be used for money,I buy the .net as well.

nupixel smart thinking, i know a few folsk who are sitting on quite a few pathwork .nets and it's always a pause before the development to see if it will get hijacked. Conversely, those are the ons that people drop, and then there you are.
Buying both .com and .net is smart. This saves you from having someone copying your site. If someone registers a .org, etc. They won't think anything of it, because the .com would obviously be more popular. Unless it is an organization, which you would register the .org in the first place.

If you have the .com and someone registers the .net and has content on their site similar to yours (.com) what are our rights? what can we do about it?
mystwoman

they have just as much right to have name content as you or services or information. But people tend to go to com if they don't remember its net. and i think if you type it in without a .com sometimes the top levels go in?

Some browsers also default in .com if you don't put in an ending. I know Opera does.

I dont think you have any rights over them. You didnt sayt the content would be the same as yours, and they can have what ever domain name that they want, so therefore there really isn't anything that you can do to get it taken down.

Your rights are nothing, unless the domain (without the .com) was registered as a trade/service mark.
Copyright your domain's content and you have yourself a suit there. Then again copyrighting your content is expensive but safe.

How can you copyright your content?

I think there is some legal process... putting (C) Bleh bleh bleh - dosen't work if I remember right.
Well there are copyright services and patent services that do it for you. There are legal processes to go through.
