Last night was my mom's birthday, and we went out to dinner. They asked me about how my work was going, and the discussion quickly came around the buying and selling of domains.
My parents know the basics of using a computer and the Internet; they can e-mail and instant message and search, but that's about all they know, and they aren't savvy at all in regards to the web industry and such.
They asked me if this domain buying/selling was something my dad could do, as they don't have a lot of money, but they like to travel, and need to make some extra money so they can travel once or twice a year around the world; this year it's Switzerland.
So throughout dinner for around 2 hours I told them how easy it was, and by the time my creme broule came, they had a decent idea as to what domains they should try looking up and getting.
So we'll see if my parents start becoming internet domain tycoon nerds, hehe.

Heh,
I have the same problem with them when I talk about my playing poker online.. and that's a lot harder to argue!
But domain names being illegal? Haven't heard of that argument before :)
Parents are funny entities sometimes :)

My mother is insane. She spent today ripping up carpet and padding, cutting down trees, and she wants to rip apart walls in our house, but finally my father stopped her.
Computer wise, my mother can't really do anything and when she tries, she things everything is broken. She'll mispell Yahoo and start complaining that her email is broken and I need to fix it. Most of the time, she forgets .com.
My dad is a little more computer literate, but he thinks every domain in the world is taken and that you HAVE to spend hours a day researching just to find a domain.

Do they have dollars to buy their way in?
BTW they are not all taken they are just not developed because everybody wants to getr ich without deveoping.

my mom doesn't use pc much except for the TV-tuner when TV goes nuts.
My pops is computer literate but as far as domain name goes he isn't much bothered about it. He likes to surf net for information about latest gizmo's etc but webmaster stuffs is something he isn't intrested in it till now.

That's exactly like my parents... only it's more just computers in general. If I reformat my Dad's computer and don't put the "MSN Browser" (The one that has to sign in with a username) on his desktop, he freaks out and thinks I broke something.
The domain business is very good! If you really know what you are doing you can be an internet Donald Trump! Haha. Wouldn't that be something... Internet and Domain Names are like Real Estate. You own them for a while and make a profit on them later on. It can be a lot of work, but that works definitely pays off. My parents probably wouldn't benefit from it because they hardly know what a domain name is. ;)

And I'm stuck here with parents that can just about use Google and check their email on Hotmail, I suppose it's porbably more than some parents would be able to do.

:D That's like my parents, they're always wanting to know how domains work and how the money comes in, for me it requires hard work, patience and skill, which I believe my parents would take a long time to master :D I think I'll just let my parents continue posting on my forum and we'll leave it at that!

You know what, my parents are after me about the same thing considering this past year I've made about $10,000 just from the internet.
So since they know "nothing" except for paying bills, checking emails, searching, and so forth.
They are going to give me some cash and I'm going to invest for them and maybe make their dreams come true so they can go vacationing!

My mother is more into computers than my dad is. But she still asks me for things a lot.
Can you actually make a business/living selling domains?
