Being registered at godaddy and moniker, which are on the expensive end, most names are not even worth half of the reg fee. I'd offer 2 cents per domain, but time is money and transferring them is not worth the time.

I think you've got an impressive portfolio - especially considering these have been the result of buying within the last 10 months. Some of the domains are snags for under the past year. I think you have some .coms and .nets that definitely have promise. There also seems to be some themes you've gone after, like the wedding themes. I question the validity of these wedding .coms and such because they're localized, and I don't think the point has come yet that a smaller, localized business will select their business name by what's available for a domain name by private sale. I can imagine that happening in the future - maybe 5 years, who knows - but there's going to need to be some changes in the way the internet works before that really becomes viable. At that point, something like DurhamWeddings.com will be consistently valuable - mid/high xxx.

Where do you see the value in something like DurhamWeddings.com? I'd be interested to know your thoughts on how a privately-owned domain such as this would be sold, and who the buyer would be. I can't see any activity in such a domain name, unless you actively market it.

For a decent number of the com/nets you've got potential buyers who will pay decent money for them, but that would require a bit of hunting and selling.

I started buying in 1999, but at the time I was an artist with limited funds. I've been buying all along, with about 70-80 domains in my portfolio. But I'm not an investor, per se; I buy domains to develop them myself. So, typically, when I have a developmental plan, I'm out to buy alot of domains which are variations on a theme.

I'm actually just dumping all my .info's that I bought - simply letting them expire, because I don't see any real value in .infos at this time and I don't see them coming up into anything in the near future. I say this because I have yet to find myself on a .info site. I have about 50 .com's/.net's - mostly .coms. I buy through GoDaddy and pay their regular price, so I don't want to hand on to .info's when I haven't even seen a .info website - or even a reference to one.

I'm interested in how you get the prices at GoDaddy through coupon codes, and whether the coupon code price is valid only once, say a 10-year registration, or if it's valid for 1-year renewals also. If it's valid for 1-year renewals, I'll trade the last of my .infos:

WebhostExchange.info
WebHostingExchange.info
WebHostingAdvice.info
WebHostingMarket.info
WebHostsGuide.info
WebHostingServers.info

for information on how I can get domains at GoDaddy (and I use GoDaddy because I like them best, and they allow me to manage everything very nicely with a system I like and am familiar and comfortable with) for .com/.net for $4.24.
But I'll need to know the whole scoop.

Haha. Do a little more research man :) Godaddy is the cheapest on the market. Free push/transfers between free accounts, and domain names for $4.24 (you just have to use the right coupon codes). You can't beat that. The registry charges more than that. Moniker sells names at 4.99 for .net's and 7.28 for .com's as long as you email anyone at all at Moniker to set you up with that; also free easy push/transfers. Not worth half the reg fee? :-) I wouldn't take $20 per name on average (except I would for most .be's that I reg'd for free). I picked up the .info's free too during the promotion last year. Check www.SKDomains.com for my domain selling website and see some of my recent sales.

Sorry Steven,

I buy my domains, .com .net. .org .biz .info and .us, at $2.99, no coupons, no marketing to be done, period. I pay it with a cash-reward CC, so my final price is 2.95. Are you telling me to "do a little more research"???

I wont even reveal my registrar, as anyone with a computer and NO EXTRA RESEARCH knows how to register domains for $2.99. Curiously, it looks like you will need to do some research to find something that is too evident.

Steven,

I use Yahoo. Their control panel is limited, you cant perform bulk redirection, but I am happy with them. I dont believe they will be out of business anytime soon.

Lets stop atacking each other and talk nice things:

I just developed http://www.crazyeggplant.com. The site is in pre-launch phase, but it is getting 200-300 uniques per day. Would you like to list your domains using a virtual store there? You will get decent exposure and all I ask for is some feedback, which is optional, anyway.

Help yourself and thanks in advance,

Just bought PartyPokerBets.com from Stevens. Very helpful seller. Though the transfer is not initiated yet, dealing with him is a pleasure. Highly recommends him!

Yeah, I was about to say, Varlin, that you came on rather aggressively. I really think Steven has a very helpful attitude, and there is more - at least for may people - that go into a registrar besides price.

Nice of you to offer an apology, however.

I'm fully aware of the Yahoo! promo of domains for $2.99. It's a nice price. However, there are other factors involved, having been buying domains for a few years now.

Ok, so at 1and1.com, their standard price is $5.99 - before Yahoo! came out with their $2.99 deal. Again, have fun DOING something with the domain you get at 1and1. I bought a number of domains there, and now I'm probably going to transfer them all to GoDaddy, where I have complete and instant control. The first domain I bought was from Verisign ... because they were the only registrar at the time. Then I found Dotster at half their price witha control panal and system that blew verisign's technical paperwork red-tape horror-story out of the water. I actually was a reseller fro Dotster for a while. GoDaddy cam along, but they didn't initially have the CP power that Doster did. Now GoDaddy has a superior system altogether, along with about another 1/2 price cut, so I made the switch to them when the had their user interface to an acceptable level.

So, I can see that Yahoo! is counting on people to buy value add-on hosting services to make up for their loss on domain pricing. I think Yahoo! is reputable about their domain service and integritous to have faith in But I'm still not ready to make the leap with long-tem domains into something that I'm wary of (just HOW are they going to make their money back) and something that looks temporary to me.

I've looked around, buying a domain here, a domain there (I might have domains I've forgotten about and don't rememeber where I bought them). But the problem for me wasn't the lower price at all; it was always the limited functionality of their CP.

So I have 49 domains at Godaddy, another 20 and 1and1.com, about 10 at Dotster, a major domain at some wierd place I can never remember, and a few others here and there. For me, service is important, and I really would like to consolidate all my domain in one place.
Because I'm in the hosting business, I'm considering getting a domain reseller account again with the ability to not just buy domains at a decent cost, tosell domain reseller acounts very inexpessively.

ABOUT GODADDY

Also, Steven, I don't think the Godaddy promo is working. I DID buy a .com domain for $1.99 (!!!) using your method, however, the $8.95 SMTP I don't believe can be simply cancelled anymore. It looks like they've caught on and bold lettering indicates that you have to call them in order to cancel the SMTP service.
And you can only buy one item with the SMTP service at the discount price; additional items are normally-priced.

So, yes, people; I did buy a domain at GoDaddy for $1.99. But, it cost me $8.95 to do it. With ICANN, the total was $11.09 I think.

Also the codes you gave are still valid codes, but different; both are for $5 off a $30 purchase.

So, the search continues, but I'm thinking more and more that a full-out domain reseller account is what will do basic-enough for me.

Thank you for your clarification. Things become better when nice and informed people com by to provide useful insights.

I also have domains in different registrars. Some 60 on 1&1, 18 on Yahoo (recently discovered) and another 5 on 5 different registrars (as a result from catching them using Snapnames). Snapnames keeps the last registrar, and they set your username and password without your consent/knowledge, so you end up with a mess of registrars and login info.

Having more than 80 domains, makes me worry about renewals. If yahoo keeps the 2.99 offer, thats more than 50 bucks a year versus 1&1.

like 1&1 price and support, but I hate their control panel so much I was almost decided to buy all new domains at Yahoo. Yahoo was my first experience setting DNS variables, and it was time consuming, but I guess the price was worth the effort.

1&1 DNS changes is also complicated. I need BATCH DNS changes to all my domains at once (I like to park them at Sedo) but I only saw that feature in one of the weird registrars Snapnames set for me. Problem: It is overseas and charges some $35 per year per domain.

I have never used GoDaddy. Do they allow you to make massive changes in servers/DNS?

I will make the question in a different way: Is there any truly cheap registrar with a truly fast powerful, easy control panel? Thanks in advance.
