I'd like to hear all domain owners viewpoints on this. I know there is a lot of strategy and investment involved but it all must come together at a point. Holding onto a domain and increasing it's PR seems to be the approach many people take. Spending a couple of thousand on a domain name doesn't seem like that much if you plan on making it better than selling it for triple it's amount.

Bigger domain owners would be much more needed in this conversation, since they are more experienced at this level, although everyone is allowed of course! :)

split between searching, buying, selling, renewing, developing, marketing, and taking time out to breathe and have a life.

That's what I'm afraid of. If I ever decided to actually "make" a living off of domains, how much of a life could I have? I mean I play Basketball, want to go to college, have a girlfriend. It would be nearly impossible. :(

Are you just going to buy and sell domains? I go to college, am a member of the YMCA even though I don't actually play basketball, and currently am I single (yeah, that's right ladies. I am available.). I don't have a "real" job. I buy and sell domains, I buy domains for other people, I develop some domains, and I do computer work/web development for other people. I also sell crap on eBay.

No I wouldn't just sell domains. In order to do so, you would have to develop them correct? That takes a lot of time to do so it would definitely take away time to actually go out and do things. Work is important so you would have to stay dedicated to it. You're in a totally different boat than I. When I go to college I am going to play for the team. Being a Student Athlete is going to be hard enough let alone finding time to do other stuff. I would like to do domains, just it's going to be hard to do everything ya know?

Adam from DNF doesn't develop, but he has a whole lot better portfolio.

Are any of his domains high PR's or are they all just great domains. I know you said he has a better portfolio, but he must have some sort of PR. Unless he has names like Corporate.com, Business.com, etc.

I think if you were able to get some decent names you wouldn't have to develop them. You'd make more money that way though.

Exactly. But with me I probably wouldn't have time, so getting any big amount of money would be fine for me.

No one, but you said you could get more if you developed it. I'm saying just sell it the way it is, even though you could potentially get more. You said it too yourself. But no I don't think anyone would mind getting a big amount of money. If they know they could get more than maybe they'll do something about it.

I think every name needs to be developed unless it is so stellar people are waving money at you.

I would love to make a living or atleast make $500/month off of buying/selling domains. I don't see it being that hard... Buy a nice sounding domain name, design it and develop it and drive traffic to it, then sell it :) - Sounds like a plan ;)

I'd rather make a living out of ad revenue from high traffic sites as I'm not too good at domains :p I'm not too good on finding buyers either :(

Finding a buyer can be a *BLEEP*. But if you find the right buyer you've hit a gold mine. There is usually always someone out there who is willing to pay TOP dollar for the domain you never though you could sell. Rest assure that domain could be money for another person.

You just have to go that extra mile in finding the perfect buyer, ie: checking whois on similar domains and contacting them, finding similar sites on google and emailing them through contact forms, etc. :) or you could either add random buyers from forums to your MSN, Yahoo or AIM account, and you could go around to everyone on your list asking:

"Would you like to buy domain.com?"

Good ideas.. I'm going to use them when selling my domain names. If I don't get any offers for my domain, thesitepromoters.com, I may go ahead and develop it into an SEO business and try selling it to another SEO company or something. :)

Yeah I've had some offers for goandbet.com. None that have struck my fancy yet. If you would buy it though I'd sell it to you. I'm very nervous about selling this domain because I've gotten stiffed before.

I would like to hear from the people that buy domains with the intent to park them and earn money through typeins. I got into this domains back in 2002 then stopped then got backed in when I heared that Marchex bought 100,000 Domains for $160,000,000.

Any popular keyworded domain will get typed-in a lot. Parking those is the smartest thing to do.

how can parking be smart when most people here have no stats for their parked domains?

Well you would have stats before parking it wouldn't you? You would develop it than park it.

By having a website. When you park a domain you change the nameservers. You would change the original host where you site is located to the parking server. Once it's parked you have all stats saved from when it was a website.
