View Full Version : Should we be buying .us domains?

I recently read on Domain Blog.net and mister.us about the growth in .us names. Should we start investing in these? If so how many names and why types of names.

*shrug* It may be growing, but unless it's a GOOD .us name, I wouldn't bother. .com and .net are still reigning and I see them staying that way for a good while

By good you mean one word, or two commerical words?

Like
doctor.us
CompterEqupiment.us

let me know

For sure one words like doctor.us and SOME two words.

It's growing, but the highest .US was $10,000. You might want to start, but don't plan on a million dollar sale quite so soon.

That's not true. The highest .us sale was actually 25,000$ with voip.us, and a close second with foods.us coming in at 20,000$. That is not even to mention business.us which was under an NDA, but was rumored to go for high $XX,XXX (probably around 50-70k), in addition to all of the other private .us sales that you never hear about.

Personally, my portfolio is well varied- I right now own swiss.us and videogaming.us among other .us domains I am thinking of selling or developing. I'd say now is a good time to invest in some good .us domains before the prices really get high.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking Foods.us went for $10,000. When did voip.us sell?

.us are becoming VERY popular. I would jump on that bandwagon if I were any of you. I think they might be as popular as .ORG actually.

If I wanted a domain for something American, I would probably go with .us before .org, but I was never a real big fan of .org.

-JJ-

.ORG's are as great as people make them out to be. You don't see too many .ORG's. I see a lot more .US's now.

I wanted HMMA.org, but it was taken. That's the only org I ever wanted. I could get it in .info, .biz, or .us, but it's not the same.

Apsylum

What is HMMA?

HAHAHAHAHA......something stupid I made up...you'll understand when you are older.

I don't think I will... not even google knows what it is. And google knows everything.

Just purchased...

Hugging.us

and

Virtousity.us

I wanted to pick up an expired Ethical.us but the owner renewed it. Damn.

voip.us sold a while ago actually.... I'd say .us is pretty much right behind .org in popularity.

-JJ-
11-06-2005, 04:26 PM
I would rather purchase a .us than a .org. I have been noticing that any American city .us are very popular. Imagine having NYC.us or NewYork.us. Worth a ton!

Sure they are. .us are becoming well known as we speak. I would rather register .us than .org right now.

Well, look at it from the point of view of someone who almost NEVER uses the computer...

Heh who is that? Almost everyone uses the computer. At least everyone on a Domains Forum.

My grandparents ;P

A lot of people are still very computer illiterate

I was offered a job to teach an adult education corse on the basics of Word and Excel...I turned the offer down, though.

I really dislike trying to teach the computer to people, they go CRAZY when something looks even a little different

-JJ-
11-08-2005, 07:32 PM
It's not the easiest thing teacher the elderly how to use a computer. I know because I've done it before, but everything needs to be written down. It's utterly annoying lol.

Ohh, a month or so ago I helped my Grandmother get her computer all set up and running (it was new) and she gave me one of those gallon plastic bags full of cookies :)

I would have been paid $45 an hour to teach.

I was actually doing work for these elderly people and they said they'd pay me extra if I taught them how to actually work the thing. They asked me to fix something they hardly knew how to use.

Isn't that crazy?

I hate fixing stuff! No one has anything decent anyway. It's like a 386 that was found on the side of the road. They pick it up and coming running to me scream, "FIX THIS!" I am like, "No, there was a reason it was thrown away". I am supposed to fix my friend's mother's computer. It wouldn't be so bad if he was still here, but he left for Iraq. She wants to computer to email him while he's there, but he's kind of a drunk and it's really uncomfortable to be around her anyway, but now she's always crying because her only son is fighting a war....I don't want to do it.

A funny story is my other friend had an HP, a brand I don't particularly care for. It quit working, so he brought it over. He's actually my brother's friend and I didn't want to go over to his house, I never been to his house, I don't even know where he lives. I open the computer and it was REALLY dusty. It also smelled fairly bad. I know dust can cause a short in some computer parts, so I told him to make sure it stays clean, either with compressed air or air filters on the fans. I also told him about the smell. He told me that his dog took a little leak all over the computer. After that, it just quite working. I told him to get the computer out of my house. Later he said that after everything had time to dry, it started to work again.

Exactly. I tell a lot of my clients, sometimes it's just better to buy a new machine. It will be cheaper in the long run too. Why they would want to spend the extra money and buy newer parts when PC's come with everything you need. I fix computers that are new, and have a virus, spyware, something small ya know? When it comes to hardware, if it is a new machine than I wouldn't have any problem replacing it. It's the older machines that aren't worth it at all. Just junk it!

LMAO! :D that's one of the funniest stories I've read in a while :D The dog was probably dehydrated, causing the pee to smell really bad, and feel hot, that could've been the problem ;) a tip for him would be, never let pets go near your computer.
